Kraven Movie Writer Wants Antoine Fuqua to Direct

The writer behind Sony's Kraven movie wants to see Antoine Fuqua direct. Sony is gearing up several movies in their Spider-Verse that is currently without a Spider-Man. Venom kicked off their cinematic universe plans in grand fashion by setting a new October opening weekend record. The studio shows no signs of slowing down either, as Jared Leto's Morbius will start filming early next year. One of the other projects they're working on is a solo movie for fellow Spidey villain Kraven the Hunter, which received a boost when Equalizer writer Richard Wenk signed on to develop the script.

He has only been on the job for a few months, resulting in hardly any news on the project. However, Wenk is now talking about his vision for Kraven and how Spider-Man may appear. He wants to adapt the Kraven's Last Hunt storyline from the comics. There's still several steps the movie must go through before it can be made, such as finding a director.

During an interview with Discussing Film, Wenk was asked if he'd like to see his frequent collaborator Antoine Fuqua direct the movie. Wenk wrote both Equalizer movies and Fuqua's Magnificent Seven remake, and would absolutely like to see Fuqua direct another one of his scripts. Wenk said:

That's an unequivocal yes. Antoine is not just a great filmmaker and one of the top filmmakers in the business, but he's also a friend of mine and we work very well together. So, I've got his ear and he'll decide based on the script. But yes, I think I can speak for myself and Sony that that would a coup to have Antoine step on board Kraven.

While Wenk was specifically asked about Fuqua as an option for Kraven, it isn't far out of the realm of possibility. Outside of Wenk and Fuqua's working relationship, Fuqua appears to be interested in tackling a superhero movie now. He previously revealed that he was approached by Sony to direct Morbius, but appears to have turned it down, allowing Daniel Espinosa to tackle the film. If Sony's already spoken with him, Wenk's involvement could be a clue that they once again have their eye on the talented director.

Sony isn't the only studio interested in getting Fuqua to helm one of their comic book movies, as he also confirmed that he had a meeting lined up with Kevin Feige to discuss possibly directing a future MCU film. There's been no indication for how those talks went, but it's clear several studios want Fuqua to make his next film for them. Whether it is with Marvel Studios or Wenk and Sony convince him to take on Kraven, it may just be a matter of time before news comes out that he's actually joining a comic book franchise.
