Maurizio Sarri worried by lack of Chelsea response in Wolves defeat | Goal.com

Maurizio Sarri was left "very worried" by Chelsea's response to conceding the equaliser in their 2-1 defeat at Wolves on Wednesday.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek gave the visitors an early lead, but Raul Jimenez pulled Wolves level at the hour mark and the home team went ahead four minutes later through Diogo Jota.

Sarri was pleased with the way his side started the game but felt it all hinged on their attitude following Jimenez's goal.

"I think that we played very well for 55 minutes," he told reporters. "After the goal, it was an accident because we were in full control of the match. We were suddenly a different team, I don’t know why.

"I am really very worried, not for the result but for the fact we didn’t respond to the first goal."

The Italian expressed his frustration to BBC Sport, saying his side should have had the game wrapped up early.

"Of course I am disappointed. We played very well in the first half. We could have killed the game.

"It’s very difficult for me to understand why. There was time to win the match. I can’t understand the reaction."

Chelsea are now 10 points behind Premier League leaders Manchester City, their next opponents.

Although Sarri was disappointed to drop points, he does not expect it to affect his team's plan for Saturday's clash at Stamford Bridge.

"As I said before, City are in another category. They are not in our category. We have to play and to fight to be in the top four," he added. "The result is very difficult for this.

“In every match you have to gain points. I lost Serie A with 91 points, so I know every match you have to gain points.

"City are the best in Europe, maybe in the world, they can win the Champions League, but it depends on moments. If you have to play against them for 10 months they are the best in the world at the moment.

“After this match we lost confidence, but maybe it is better. Sometimes my players show me they have too much confidence."
