Mark Your Calendars: NES Classic Edition Returns June 29

NES Classic Edition

No need to shell out an arm and a leg to buy an NES Classic Edition on an auction site. Nintendo in September promised to bring back the super-popular retro game system this summer, and now we have an actual re-launch date.

In a Sunday tweet, Nintendo said the NES Classic Edition will return to store shelves on June 29.

The $59.99 NES Classic Edition is a mini version of the Nintendo Entertainment System that originally launched in 1985. It comes with 30 pre-installed games plus one full-size NES Classic Controller, an HDMI cable, and AC adapter.

When Nintendo first released the NES Classic Edition in November 2016, it did not make enough to meet demand and ultimately discontinued the mini console rather than making more. It has since reversed course and will start making the mini retro console again.

The NES Classic Edition and $80 Super NES Classic Edition, a miniature version of the classic 1990's video game console which launched on Sept. 29, "are expected to be available through the end of the year," Nintendo wrote.

The NES Classic Edition earned an "excellent" rating in PCMag's 2016 review, and our coveted Editors' Choice award. "It's charming, fun, and affordable, and the decades-old games look fantastic thanks to its HDMI output, making it an ideal gift for anyone who remembers why we blew into cartridges," we wrote a t the time

The Super NES Classic Edition earned similarly high marks.
